On weekends when the mercury flirts with triple digits, New York can feel like a ghost town (ok, relatively speaking). When it seems that half the population jumps ship and flees to the Hamptons, the shore or upstate, it is your time to seize your city and soak it for all of its hot, and sticky glory.
YGallery Salon | SoHo wants to share a few things that we're psyched about that are happening this summery weekend, plus some tips on hair trends and hair health to make sure you look beautiful for all your weekend activities.
First, you should know that McCarren Park Pool in Williamsburg is open for the first time in three decades. This absolutely enormous (37,950 square feet, to be exact) oasis fits over a thousand swimmers and includes eight lap lanes, a sand-laden volleyball court and a recreation center.

YGallery tip: Nowhere is a fabulously floppy, oversized, brimmed hat more appropriate than pool-side. You'll not only feel like Samantha Jones on her California balcony, but you'll also protect your hair from the sun's damaging rays and prevent hair weakening and thinning, not to mention the horrors it can inflict on your hair color. For extra protection, apply a little heat protection balm from roots to ends. And, if you're considering a full-on dunk in the pool, remember our mantra: if its wet, let it set; if its dry, put it up high!
If you can't help your hair getting fried this weekend, have no fear: stop over at YGallery Salon for a quick, deep conditioning treatment, which will work wonders on repairing your damaged locks.
On Saturday, release your inner hipster and funk out (for free!) at the Ecstatic Music Festival at the World Financial Center Plaza downtown. The tribal-pop superstar Tune-Yards (pictured below) will be the big draw, but other earthy grooves and fusion-riddled eclectic sounds will equally delight.

YGallery tip: Rock a funky partial up-do like the faux-faux hawk, or go bold and commit to the style with a punkie pixie cut!

No perfect New York weekend would be complete without an obscenely fabulous brunch. Now that all the Hamptonites are away for the weekend, you don't have to wait for that table in the shade (or a/c, depending on how ridiculous this weekend's humidity will actually get).
YGallery tip: An off the neck and effortless looking hairstyle is an absolute must on a muggy, lazy Sunday afternoon.

Okay, so this last pic doesn't fit the "effortless-looking" description, but it actually really is effortless. Check out our past blog on Fast and Fabulous in Under Five Minutes to see how to master the double bun.
In a city with so much going on, its actually hard not to stay cool. Have fun, everyone!
